Studio sessions are always such fun but they lack the variability of an outdoor photo session. This is why I always recommend the outdoors for my couples as they consider location for an engagement photo session. And depending on the theme you are going for, it is important to ensure that your outfits suit not just your personality but the location.

Here are some style recommendations for your next engagement or couples photo session:

Formal: I love it when my couples are dressed to the nines for their session. A suit or blazer for the guy and a formal dress or gown  paired with formal shoes are always a great idea. I always advise ladies to bring comfortable shoes if they plan on wearing heels. These makes it easy to navigate not just the poses but the location. I also highly recommend that couples match their colors. For example, If the lady will be wearing a red dress for example then some red socks or red pocket square would be a perfect accompaniment for the guy.

Casual: there is nothing simpler than a pair of jeans and your favorite top or shirt. Again I always recommend complimenting each others outfit . So if one person is wearing a brown top, then the other might wear brown pants . I love a casual look because it is also affordable and most couples do not need to go o a shopping spree to find  a suitable outfit

Outfits that tell your story: This way you can always look back with fondness and share the story behind the outfits.

Dress for the season: I love engagement sessions in winter. It is an opportunity to bundle up and cuddle for couples. I am looking forward to shooting a session one of these days when Charlotte offers up some snow but even if there isn’t any snow, we can always incorporate some winter fashion into your session. For summer sessions, remember to dress light and breezy.

Outfits that showcase your career: For servicemen and women, there is nothing like an engagement session with uniform so please incorporate this into your session. It always makes such a powerful image.

Outfits that embrace your style: Maybe you are both Elvis Presley fans and would like to incorporate that look into your session. Or maybe you both love Mad Men or period dramas. Dressing like your favorite characters is also another great idea when choosing outfits.

Comfortable outfits: My last tip is to wear whatever makes you comfortable. Uncomfortable outfits might mean some discomfort during the session and we want you at your very best for these photos are they are a kick off to a lifetime together.
