A wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime event filled with love, joy, and countless memorable moments. 1. Pre-Wedding Preparation
– Meet the Couple:Schedule a pre-wedding consultation to understand their preferences, style, and any specific shots they desire. I got to meet this couple at their engagement photo session. We met at the beautiful Midtown Park in Charlotte and developed a rapport.
– Visit the Venue: Scout the location beforehand to identify the best spots for photos, considering lighting and background options. The venue for this wedding is brand new and I did not have the opportunity to tour but I got to the venue early enough to case out good spots for the portraits.
– Create a Shot List:Prepare a comprehensive list of must-have shots, including family portraits, bridal party pictures, and key moments like the first kiss and cake cutting.

2. Essential Gear
– Cameras and Lenses: Bring at least two camera bodies and a variety of lenses (wide-angle, portrait, and zoom) to cover different perspectives.
– Lighting Equipment: Use external flashes, reflectors, and diffusers to manage lighting, especially for indoor or low-light situations.
– Backup Equipment:Have spare batteries, memory cards, and backup gear ready to avoid any technical issues.

 3. Capturing Key Moments
– Getting Ready:Start the day by photographing the bride and groom as they prepare. Focus on candid moments, details of the dress, shoes, and accessories.

– Detail Shots:Pay attention to small details like rings, invitations, table settings, and décor to add depth to the wedding album.5. Post-Processing
– Editing:Use photo editing software to enhance colors, correct exposure, and retouch blemishes. Maintain a natural and timeless look.6. Professionalism and Etiquette
– Dress Appropriately:Blend in with the wedding guests by dressing suitably for the occasion. I like to wear black or a neutral color to blend in as much as possible. Also be mindful of the dress code if there is one and dress appropriately.
– Communicate Clearly:Coordinate with the wedding planner and other vendors to ensure a smooth photography schedule. I find it very helpful to work with wedding planners and videographers in particular.
– Respect Traditions:Be mindful of cultural and religious practices during the ceremony and reception. For this couple, they celebrated their Nigerian and African- American identities and cultures in a gorgeous way. They also had a church ceremony at a catholic church in Uptown Charlotte and it was important to respect the church’s rules on photography while still ensuring to capture intimate moments of the ceremony.Final Thoughts
Wedding photography is about more than just taking pictures; it’s about capturing the essence of a couple’s love story. By preparing thoroughly, being attentive to details, and using creative techniques, you can deliver a collection of images that the couple will treasure for a lifetime. Remember, your photographs will become a cherished part of their family history, so make each shot count.
