Most professional wedding photographers will tell you that after the choice of your wedding photographer, your venue choice might be the next big decision surrounding your wedding day. Maybe we are biased but a wedding venue does play a big part in the memories of your big day. They will be the backdrop upon which these wedding day memories are built and can contribute to a wedding photographer’s success in delivering images you and your family will love.

A wedding venue can make or break your wedding. In choosing  a venue, I always recommend that couples think about such factors as lightning, ambience, size etc.

A great wedding venue can also determine how your wedding photos turn out. For this reason, most wedding photographers look forward to some venues vs others.

Here are some of my favorite wedding or event venues in the Charlotte area.

1. 1932 Barn: The 1932 Barn is an elegant historic wedding and reception venue located at Hodge’s Farm. If you are looking for a rustic barn style venue, then this would be it. It offers indoor and outdoor options as well as smaller sized spaces if you are looking for a more intimate venue. The venue has a lot of parking and lots to entertain guests should (heaven forbid) they get bored by the wedding festivities.

2. Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden : If you have always dreamed of a garden wedding then this is the place for you. It is a beautiful venue for special occasions such as weddings, birthday celebrations, anniversaries and even corporate events. This venue offers different packages to suit every budget and style and it is also beautiful to photograph. I am hoping to shoot here one of these days.

3. Charlotte Parks and Recreation: Charlotte has some of the most beautiful parks and nature preserves I have ever seen. from Jetton Park to Colonel Beatty Park, there is a wide array of options here. This is also a great place to start if you have a limited budget for your venue. With just some creativity and planful decor, you can turn what is a regular park venue into your dream wedding venue for way less than more expensive venues.

4. The Mint Museum: if you are going for a more artsy, modern vibe, then definitely check out this venue. This Uptown venue is worth its weight in gold especially for those classy and modern bridal and groom portraits. The one con is because it is Uptown, your guests might have to haggle for parking space with everyone else. Parking can get expensive here so encourage your guests to take the rail or an Uber or carpool.

5. The Courthouse: Another Uptown location. If you are planning on just a ceremony and skipping the reception or planning a ‘just the two of us’ ceremony and planning to celebrate with friends somewhere else, then this is a great choice. The beautiful structure makes for such a great and intimate backdrop for your wedding photos. There is also a small nearby that makes a great backdrop for some gorgeous wedding photos.

These are some of my favorite wedding venues in the Charlotte area. One thing I miss about living in New England is the beach and the opportunities it affords for a beautiful beach wedding. The good thing is Charlotte does have Lake Norman and Lake Wylie if you are all about those sea/beach vibes for your wedding. And there is Charleston, Hilton Head, Lake Lure amongst others if you really want a beach wedding.

I am really hoping to capture a wedding in the mountains one of these days and would love to discuss with any couples looking into a mountain venue.

Till my next blog, have a great weekend!
